“Conan! Where are the pendants?” The heavily muscled man wore a spiked helmet, and chain mail descended to his knees. In one hand he gripped a great double-bladed ax, in the other a round buckler.
With no more warning the ax leaped toward Conan, who danced back, broadsword flickering in snakelike thrusts. The mighty barbarian swung, felt his blade bite through bone, and ax and severed hand fell together. Blood pumped from the stump in regular spurts. The man hurled his round shield at Conan’s head. Conan ducked; even as he recovered, his opponant was coming to his feet with the battle-ax in his left hand.
“Conan!” he screamed. “You will die!”
Conan’s blade leaped forward once more, and the helmeted head rolled in the dust.
“Not yet,” the Cimmerian said grimly.
This is a work of fiction. All the characters and events portrayed in this book are fictional, and any resemblance to real people or incidents is purely coincidental.
